Oklahoma Wesleyan University Board of Trustees Meeting – Fall 2015

Once again I enjoyed being on the OKWU campus for the Board of Trustees meeting. I never cease to be impressed with this Christian university and the planning that is done to ensure that stellar programs are being offered.

Time Away From Home

Twice a year I am privileged to meet with the Board of Trustees of Oklahoma Wesleyan University, as I did this past week. It is always a delight to spend time on this beautiful campus and to hear reports by the committed Christian administrators.

Great academic programs and stellar residential experiences create a balanced learning and social environment for OKWU students. Students and faculty alike understand and affirm the university mission.

The mission: As an evangelical Christian university of The Wesleyan Church, Oklahoma Wesleyan University models a way of thought, a way of life, and a way of faith. It is a place of serious study, honest questions, and critical engagement, all in the context of a liberal arts community that honors the Primacy of Jesus Christ, the Priority of Scripture, the Pursuit of Truth, and the Practice of Wisdom.

Of course, an aerial view is not the one I have while there, but I enjoy walking around the campus and taking in the beauty of each area, from the Lyon Chapel and Fine Arts Center on the east to the La Quinta mansion on the west.

OKWU Again

This week I’m off to Oklahoma Wesleyan University for the fall Board of Trustees meeting. During the sessions, the board will receive reports and approve administrative plans for future growth and development of this thriving faith and learning community.

While on the campus, I will enjoy a latte at Doc Lacy’s, the wonderful coffee house that honors my dad, and take in the beauty of this incredible campus. I’m always impressed with the administration, faculty, staff, and students at this outstanding Christian University.

Beautiful Oklahoma Gem

Last week I was privileged to be in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, for the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Board of Trustees meeting. After the last session, I got my camera out and took a few pictures.

The campus coffee house, Doc Lacy’s, is named for my father. It includes a fireplace, lounge seating, café tables and chairs, and an internet area. The original design has been expanded to include a patio by the lake and outside seating. The lake and patio can be seen reflected in the windows. This is a very special place for me as it reminds me of a wonderful Dad and the many years he (and my mom) invested in the lives of young people.

Doc Lacy’s is a great place for students to drink coffee, play games, visit, and study. The student government organization plans special activities and contests at Doc Lacy’s throughout the year.

A remarkable Scott Stearman bronze sculpture is located beside the lake next to the library. It depicts the blind man after being healed by Jesus at the pool of Siloam. The lake in the background is spring-fed, hence the beautiful, clear water. Students often fish there. This picture was taken just before chapel, so no one was fishing at the time.

I feel privileged to serve on the OKWU Board of Trustees. This campus is a beautiful “gem” set in Bartlesville.
